Create a Storm-Readiness Kit

Putting together a storm-readiness kit is good common sense. By assembling a  READINESS KIT, you and your family are well-prepared for Hurricains - Tornadoes and other natural disasters that occur throughout the U.S.

 

“Every disaster is a reminder that emergencies can and will happen anywhere, anytime, and that everyone needs to take steps now to be prepared for all possible risks and hazards in their communities.

 

Stock non-perishable foods

Stock a three-day supply of  non-perishable foods that doesn’t need refrigeration, preparation, water, or cooking. REMEMBER Salty foods should be avoided, as they will make you thirsty, and of course, you should choose foods that your family will love to eat. Some foods include: 

You should pack a manual can opener and eating utensils

 

  • Protein or fruit bars
  • Several day’s of water
  • Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits, and vegetables
  • Peanut butter
  • Dried cereal or granola
  • Canned juices

 

Other items you should have on hand

These supplies include:

 

  • A battery-powered or hand crank radio and a Weather Raido with tone alert and extra batteries 
  • A flashlight and extra batteries
  • A first aid kit
  • Moist towelettes and garbage bags
  • Infant formula and diapers ( If needed)
  • Pet food and extra water for your pet (If needed)
